Team Treehouse Techdegree Unit 1 : Review

The journey of code through a techdegree!!

TLDR: Unit 1 is amazing, the community is amazing, and this is by far one of my favorite learning experiences and I recommend it highly.

So a few months ago I decided to try the Techdegree from Teamtreehouse. After signing up and paying the cost of the monthly fee, which is not the cheapest at 200 dollars a month. However the quality is very well worth it. I was sent a welcome email and a link to the Slack channel which I think is awesome. I then started diving into the curriculum and from the very beginning it was exceptional. There was very detailed hand holding at first, and as the lessons in the unit continued it got less and less hand holdy.

In this unit there are 15 lessons. Each lesson can either be a full course, reading material, or a workshop. The unit ends with a project which is a random quote generator. The lessons were awesome and the project was really fun. There were a few tricky areas but they give you enough details and directions to really push you to the end of the project.

The best is yet to come….

The standout so far, and I mean the part that really pushes me to recommend this company is the community. I have been and I still am part of a lot of developer communities. Some for beginners, some for people who has done it for years and the difference between those and this is the way it is done. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, to help you if you are stressed, and to guide you if you are stuck.  They are very welcoming and helpful on your journey to code. and while their learning structure is top of the line it is this feature that truly makes them stand out.

When it comes to the curriculum itself you will learn about text editors, JavaScript(This goes deep into JavaScript), Github and how to battle Imposter Syndrome. Imposter Syndrome is something most developers face at some time or another. You can see my other article here. Below is a screen of my unit 1 final project.
