Journey To Code Season 1 Episode 1: Team Treehouse Tech Degree

hi everyone!! So I have been coding, learning about code, thinking of code, smelling code, tasting code, and anything else with code I could be doing for the last year so far. So I decided instead of jumping around from platform to platform I would try different structured paths. I mean I need the structure, it is the one part of this I am truly missing. So I went and signed myself up to a teamtreehouse tech degree. I decided to focus on the JavaScript path and do this entire degree until the end and it is finished. I also decided to bring you with me, though there will be no eating or drinking in the car and you have to keep your shoes on. We don’t want to smell your socks. But buckle up because this is going to be a long journey!!

Also, before I start my description of my first week of TeamTreeHouses Tech Degree, I want you to be aware that I have a Computer Science degree as well as other learning experiences under my belt and I am STILL learning this stuff. So if you feel frustrated and you think its hard then don’t worry because it is. It is probably the hardest thing I have ever done and a four year degree did not begin to prepare me for it. But I love it, its the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing I think about before I go to bed. I would not choose any other field or any other passion to have then the one I have for code.

Now that that is done with, lets jump on it. After signing up on there website for the 25 dollar a month course I quickly seen tech degree and jumped into that free trial. Right away I got sent a slack invite and had access to the tech degree dashboard. The dashboard is awesome although it does jump between the tech degree and the Full Stack JavaScript course, so I kept having to find my way back to the tech degree area.

Slack, well this is one of my favorite parts, the community, the community and leaders in the slack group are literally some of the best I have ever seen. They are super helpful and will answer any question you have and they go above the technical side by making you feel like you belong and even better then that, they help pick you up when you feel you just can not do it, or are not made to be doing it. and yes it does happen, because again coding is hard.

Intro to Javascript, this course so far has been amazing, it has shown me details and ideas that I did not think about before. It is a very descriptive and deep dive into a wonderful language, the language that has been here a while and still manages to get more important every day. You learn concepts and write code here, you write a good bit of code, you answer questions and you write code. Which is what it takes to be good at this. There is some hand holding but not enough to where it hinders you as they know when to let go of your hand and let you do it yourself.

This is my first week, every week I will post a new week recap of this awesome journey and hopefully as we go along it gets more code related. I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me and until next time, code.
